Why a Studio?
Part 2
In the post that is now part 1 on this topic, I talked about the need for both training and practice. However, I’ve heard from people that the notion of a studio is still unclear to them, so let me try to clear it up.
The inspiration for the idea came from The Actors Studio, founded in 1947 in New York City by Elia Kazan, Cheryl Crawford, and Robert Lewis, the Studio began as a place where theatre artists could gather, privately, to explore new and deeper connections to the work.
The founding members of the Studio, a group of actors, writers, and directors, were committed to redefining the art of acting, to developing a series of techniques an actor could use to search for and express the truth onstage in the moment. The workshop went on to become the most powerful influence on American acting in the 20th century and continues today serving new generations of actors who are committed to the same ideal.
Similarly, The Practitioners Studio™ is built on the notion that coaching, consulting, leadership development, and talent development form an art that is based on a set of tools and techniques that are used to work with clients and each other to reveal the truth of what is stopping them or holding them back.
The Studio itself consists of biweekly sessions, of two kinds:
The Tool Studio - Introduction and exploration of a key framework or tool (drawn in part from Transformation: From Potential to Practice and from the leaders 70+ years experience) with examples for executive, team, and organization-level use.
The Practice Lab - Open coaching, case consultation, and peer dialogue focused on your current client work—adapting and applying the tool safely and effectively.
The Practitioners Studio™ is for practitioners at all levels of experience and expertise – this allows a diversity of “knowing” and “not knowing” in the dialogue so that everyone can be contributed to. The emphasis is on transformational tools – tools that shift mindset and context rather than process.
If you are looking for a live, interactive learning space for coaches, consultants, and facilitators who want to refine their craft and work with greater integrity and impact, The Practitioners Studio™ may be for you. To find out, book a call with Anne Peterson or with Ed Gurowitz and we’ll answer your questions and look with you to see if this is for you.
